Alan is a Mentor-Editor for Youthcast Media Group, which teaches high school students how to report on health and social disparities that hurt communities of color, including mental health, education, housing and income.

Alan serves as the director of the Mary Withers Rural Writing Fellowship at Boyd’s Station, which provides a unique summer internship program to college journalism students to dive into a community and report on the challenges it faces.
